Hardest hit regions of the UK by Coronavirus




The UK employee numbers fell by 649,000 as people losing jobs during the #Covid-19 crisis. ONS says as #Coronavirus started; universal credit claimants went up. 333,000 people have lost jobs between April to June 2020.
Coronavirus has hit the different regions of the country differently. As per ONS, the Worst hit regions are:
1. North East - 64.3% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
2. Scotland - 62% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
3. South West - 61.9% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
4. Yorkshire & the Humber - 61.2% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
5. West Midlands - 60.9% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
6. North West - 60.1% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
7. East Midlands - 59.3% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
8. South East - 59.2% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
9. London - 58.9% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
10. East of England - 58.7% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
11. Wales - 57.5% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
12. Northern Ireland - 48.9% of businesses reporting a fall in revenue
#Restaurant and #hospitality sectors have been hit hard. Ask Italian and Zizzi are planning to close up to 25 more branches with hundreds of jobs at risk. The threat emerged as Pizza Express prepares to close a possible 75 restaurants, putting more than 1,000 jobs at risk. Azzurri is in trouble and is in talks with their partners and creditors. They operate 311 restaurants and shops in the UK, three in the Republic of Ireland, and one in Shanghai. It employs over 6,000 staff and serves over 20 million meals a year. The firm saw restaurant sales rise 7% to £299m last year but made a loss of £16.3m. Chinatown at Soho, London is highly worried about the future of the restaurants in that area. Restaurants and pubs have opened on 4th July 2020. From August 1 we will reopen most remaining leisure settings, namely bowling, ice-skating rinks, casinos and we will enable close contact services at beauticians to resume. Sadly, customers are still not confident enough to dine in.
