Eat out to help out - phase 2 - Brent Linen Hire - 02034881616

In an interview Chancellor Rishi Sunak would not confirm or deny the return of his successful Eat Out to Help Out initiative soon.

In the interview the chancellor emphasised his intention to get people out and about spending again when the current lockdown ends. Sunak didn’t rule out further measures similar to the Eat Out To Help Out scheme when the economy does reopen.

The Eat Out to Help Out initiative motivated circa 100 million meals to be ordered in August and crucially kept countless hospitality businesses afloat.

ONS data shows a slow down in a ‘recovery’ and follows hot on the heals of record levels of growth in unemployment. So, something does need to be done to stimulate spending again and soon.

We #brentlinenhire welcome this news.

Pfizer vaccine trial success signals breakthrough in pandemic battle #Covid-19

BioNTech and Pfizer raise hopes with breakthrough Covid-19 vaccine. The early data shows that their Coronavirus vaccine strongly effective. Nils Pratley says it is ‘A great day for humanity’.

The vaccine is the first to be tested in the United States to generate late-stage data. The companies said an early analysis of the results showed that individuals who received two injections of the vaccine three weeks apart experienced more than 90% fewer cases of symptomatic Covid-19 than those who received a placebo. For months, researchers have cautioned that a vaccine that might only be 60% or 70% effective.

The inoculation, based on mRNA technology found to be 90 per cent effective in phase 3 trials involving more than 43,000 participants, far exceeding the threshold required by regulators.

Question still, remains who will have the Pfizer vaccine first and when can I get it? It depends how old you are, as age is the biggest risk factor for severe Covid-19. In the UK, older care home residents and care home staff are top of the preliminary priority list. They are followed by health workers such as hospital staff. People are then ranked by age, with people under 50 at the bottom of the list.

FTSE 100 jumps as Pfizer and BioNTech report coronavirus vaccine is 90% effective. Global stock markets and Pfizer share price surge after Pfizer Covid vaccine news.

London Tier 2 restrictions as the cases and death surge, the 'death knell' for the hospitality sector

Millions of people across England will be banned from meeting friends and family inside their household from Saturday. The regions have been told they will move to stricter Tier 2 restrictions to try and stop the spread of coronavirus.

Following areas will go into Tier 2 restrictions this weekend:

London

Essex

Elmbridge in Surrey

Barrow in Furness, Cumbria

York

North East Derbyshire

Chesterfield

Erewash and

Derbyshire

The infection rate in London has been steadily increasing for several weeks and in the week to 9 October, it was 77.8 cases per 100,000 people.

#Pubs, #restaurants and #cafes will be allowed to stay open, but the reduction in group sizes will have a knock-on effect on the #hospitality sector. The 10 pm curfew stuck the knife in, but there was a bit of hope when things were returning to normality. UK Hospitality chief executive Kate Nicholls said the new rules could “well be the death knell for many hospitality businesses. A move into Tier 2 wipes a further 15 per cent off very low revenues, which are currently at 20 to 30 per cent of normal levels in London. Many will not recover if London moves into Tier 3 lockdown restrictions, which would force pubs to close. Support measures urgently needed to avoid mass redundancies”.

The measures will affect 3,640 pubs and 7,556 restaurants across London, Altus said, according to official government data. Tougher Tier 2 restrictions will put up to 250,000 jobs at risk in London's hospitality sector, according to the industry's trade body. Many would rather be in a Tier 3 area, as at least if they were required to close by law, they would be able to access grants and the more generous furlough scheme.

Central London will be particularly impacted by the lockdown as people reduce public transport use. With no non-household mixing allowed indoors and a reduction in journeys on public transport requested, Tier 2 will hit London’s hospitality sector hard, particularly in its centre. Hospitality businesses are between the rock and hard place. Their trade is impacted by the restrictions, yet there’s not sufficient support available to help them to stay open.

Here is the full list of tier two restrictions:

You must not socialise with anybody outside of your household or support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place.

You must not socialise in a group of more than 6 outside, including in a garden or other space like beaches or parks (other than where specific exemptions apply in law).

Businesses and venues can continue to operate, in a COVID-secure manner, other than those that remain closed in law.

Certain businesses are required to ensure customers only consume food and drink while seated, and must close between 10 pm and 5 am.

Businesses and venues selling food for consumption off the premises can continue to do so after 10 pm as long as this is through delivery service, click-and-collect or drive-through

Schools, universities and places of worship remain open.

Weddings and funerals can go ahead with restrictions on the number of attendees

Exercise classes and organised sport can continue to take place outdoors. These will only be permitted indoors if it is possible for people to avoid mixing with people they do not live with or share a support bubble with, or for youth or disability sport.

You can continue to travel to venues or amenities that are open, for work or to access education, but should look to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible.
